MEET THE MAKER – My Little Thriftling
“Thrifting makes me feel EMPOWERED.”

When it comes to creativity, sustainability, and style with a story, Elmien from My Little Thriftling embodies it all. What started as a personal love for rummaging through charity shops turned into a thriving business that now inspires many to rethink fashion.

A Love for the HuntElmien’s thrifting journey began with a simple passion—digging through secondhand stores to find unique treasures. In 2019, she started selling her own and her daughter’s pre-loved clothing on Instagram. It wasn’t long before this small side project evolved into a business she deeply loves.

More Than Just Bargains: For Elmien, thrifting goes beyond affordability. “Mainstream mundane doesn’t interest me at all,” she says. Through vintage fabrics and unexpected finds, she creates pieces that are both edgy and sustainable. Creativity is her oxygen, and thrifted materials offer the perfect medium to breathe life into original designs.

Style that Speaks: Describing her personal style as Comfortable, Edgy, and Neutral, Elmien has cultivated a look that reflects authenticity and originality. Her favorite places to thrift include Hospice, Ons Winkel, and Yaga—spaces where hidden gems wait to be found.

Shift in Perspective: Thrifting has transformed not just her wardrobe but her entire approach to shopping. “I only buy the essentials new,” she explains. “Even household items I prefer to look for on Marketplace or in thrift stores. It benefits a circular economy.”

From Tapestries to Treasures: Elmien doesn’t just resell—she reinvents. She’s known for using tapestries to make bags and pincushions, or transforming shirts, tablecloths, and other fabrics into dresses. One of her favorite creations? A cushion made from a Heidi tapestry—a charming blend of story and style

Tips for New Thrifters: Feeling overwhelmed at the start? Elmien’s advice is simple and empowering: “ start with what you have. Choose the platform you want to sell from. Take beautiful photos with the emphasis on the item—plainer is better. And just keep going!”
