We’re Cancelling Holidays—But Why?

Why We Don’t Do Holiday Hype: A Rethink on Gifting Seasons - "Cancel culture done right"

In a world that’s constantly telling you to buy more—especially when the calendar marks a special day—we’ve chosen a different path. You won’t find flashy seasonal bundles, limited-edition packaging, or themed gift boxes here. Not for Valentine's Day, not for Mother's Day, not even for Black Friday.

Why? Because we believe your everyday is worth more than any once-a-year sale.

Our mission has always been clear: to offer intentional, high-quality home and personal care products that genuinely support your well-being. That doesn’t change because a holiday rolls around. We create for the daily rhythm of your life—not the marketing calendar.

From a business point of view, this choice doesn’t always make sense. Seasonal promotions move products fast. Gift bundles tempt new customers. But here’s the thing: we didn’t build Roodt Made by Nature to chase trends. We built it to stand for something.

We are committed to sustainable, mindful practices. In an industry that thrives on overconsumption and pressure to buy more (and quickly), we choose restraint. We choose not to encourage last-minute gifts, novelty packaging, or mass-produced “limited editions” that end up unused or in the bin.

Consider this:

During the festive season, South Africa experiences a 25% increase in food and organic waste, placing additional strain on waste management systems and contributing to environmental degradation. (iol.co.za)

South Africans generate up to 30% more waste during the festive season, further exacerbating the challenges faced by our waste infrastructure. (iol.co.za)

Black Friday contributes significantly to South Africa's fastest-growing waste stream: electronic waste (e-waste). Each citizen generates between 6 to 7 kg of e-waste annually, with only 7% to 12% formally recycled. (sst.org.za)

South Africa produces approximately 2.4 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, equating to 41 kg per person per year — far above the global average of 29 kg. Yet, only 14% is recycled, and nearly 40% is mismanaged, leading to severe pollution. (developmentaid.org)

During the December holidays alone, household waste increases by up to 25%, driven largely by single-use items, wrapping, and packaging. (archive.bir.org)

Our decision to step away from the holiday hustle is an act of quiet rebellion. It’s also a promise: that we’ll keep showing up for you with the same intention, quality, and integrity—no countdown clocks, no gimmicks.

So, while others hype the next big sale or themed bundle, we’ll be here. Doing what we do best. Creating thoughtfully. Selling only what you truly need. And putting the planet before profit, every single day.

Because care shouldn’t come in waves. It should come in consistency.
